LEGAL ACTION FOR THE CLIMATE GOAL: TOWARDS EQUITY, SURVIVAL AND THE RULE OF LAW
28 September 2017: Friends of the Earth highlight "State of Emergency"
Sir David King, former UK chief government scientist and permanent Special Representative for Climate Change:
“This is crazy. The Government knows very well what needs to be done – but it isn't doing it. If it takes legal action to force ministers to behave properly, then so be it – I’ll support it."

“PRESIDENT TRUMP MAY HAVE HIS ALTERNATIVE FACTS,
BUT ALTERNATIVE FACTS DO NOT WORK IN A COURTROOM”
"This is a huge endeavour. Greater than the Apollo moon launch. Greater even than reconstruction after the Second World War. It will require the efforts of every sector of society - from businesses, the financial community and local authorities, to the public, unions and every department of government.
But it is overwhelmingly a good news agenda. It will deliver thousands of new businesses and jobs in clean technology. It will cut waste. It will mean warmer homes, and lower energy costs. Cleaner air and a greener countryside. This is a vision of hope for a better world everyone can get behind."
Many thanks to Gideon Mendel for kind permission to use his 'Drowning World' series of photographs, a project he began in 2007 to explore the personal impacts of climate change. Flooding is just one of the consequences of global warming: the warmer air is, the more water vapour it can hold, leading to rainfall that is less regular but more extreme. Since water vapour is itself a greenhouse gas, a vicious circle (or 'positive feedback effect') results, accelerating both warming and flooding.
